David Hirzel, principal, Sasaki Associates, Watertown, MA, is a planner with more than 40 years of experience focused on projects within complex urban, brownfield, environmental, and regulatory settings. In 2008 he received the USGBC Leadership Award for Organizational Excellence and an AIA Presidential Citation for his work as a Key Contributor to the founding of the AIA Committee on the Environment. Trained as an architect/M.B.A., Mr. Hirzel has a broad understanding of issues impacting development and is adept at framing strategies that successfully integrate planning and design into the increasingly complicated development process. He leads the Master Planning program for the Executive Education program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and has lectured widely on planning and professional practice. He received an M.B.A from the Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Washington State University.
