David Hirzel, Principal Emeritus, Sasaki Associates, Watertown, MA,is a planner and urban designer who joined Sasaki in 1969 and served as principal in charge for several award-winning Sasaki projects. His professional practice has included planning and design for districts, mixed-use centers, urban waterfronts, new and historic communities, brownfields sites, military facilities, and institutional campuses.  His work in environmentally sensitive urban and rural settings led to his selection as an original member of the American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment. David's continuing professional activity includes leading a course on Planning Sustainable Cities at the Harvard Graduate School of Design Executive Education program, and serving on the Department of Architecture Advisory Board at Washington State University. David received his bachelor of architecture degree from Washington State University and a master of business administration from the Harvard Business School. He was a Fulbright Scholar in architecture at the Norwegian Institute of Technology.
