Rob Murchison has over 20 years of experience in strategy consulting, design, and implementation of information technology to real estate developers and commercial businesses. He is currently a principal at Intelligent Buildings, LLC, a smart real estate professional services company that he co-founded in 2004. Intelligent Buildings provides planning and implementation management of next generation strategy for new buildings, existing portfolio optimization and smart community projects. Intelligent Buildings has worked extensively throughout the US and Canada in over 50 different cities.
Mr. Murchison and Intelligent Buildings have been recognized with numerous industry firsts including lead consulting on "The Smartest Building in America," conception and development of a Clinton Global Initiative public private partnership, program management for the largest energy analytics project in the North America and creation of national smart building standards for both the US and Canadian federal governments. Additionally, he was named one of “35 to watch in the industry for 2013.”
He also helps shape the industry through collaboration and lecturing at national laboratories and universities including Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratories,Pacific Northwest National Laboratories and Georgia Tech University.
Mr. Murchison and his colleagues at Intelligent Buildings conceived, designed and implemented one of the most progressive smart community projects in the world with “Envision Charlotte”. Envision Charlotte was announced by former President Bill Clinton as a Clinton Global Initiative along with the Charlotte Mayor and pending Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx, CEO of Duke Energy Jim Rogers, CEO of Cisco John Chambers and Urban Economic Development CEO Michael Smith. This first of its kind smart grid and community awareness and behavior initiative, connected 22 million square feet and 65 buildings in center city Charlotte, NC to measure and reduce energy, water and waste, while improving air quality. Envision Charlotte is a unique public private partnership to reduce energy and environmental resources measured by business costs, environmental impact and economic development.
