Anthony Mason is the founding principal of AMA Project Management, an independent ten-person firm established in 1984 in Los Angeles whose primary focus is the project management of, large-scale and complex Hospitality, Entertainment, Healthcare, Education, Residential and Commercial projects. Mason has also worked as a UN Consultant on the Project Management of Capital Expenditures Projects in Malawi, Central Africa, and has worked in Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Macao, and the UK, as well as throughout the United States.
Mason’s projects include Master Planning of the Culver Studios Campus and build-out for Amazon Complex, DreamWorks Campus and subsequent build-out, Sony Picture Campus Master Plan and subsequent build-out, Loyola Marymount University Campus Master Plan (as well as the William H. Hannon Library, the Life Sciences Building, the Von der Ahe Student Center and the School of Film and Television), while other notable Los Angeles area projects include the Four Seasons Hotel, Bacara Resort and Spa Santa Barbara, Beverly Hilton Hotel Renovation, Regent Beverly Wilshire Renovation, Loews Hotel Santa Monica, 17 Warner Bros./ Warner Music / Warner Records projects, Endeavor and William Morris and Paradigm Talent Agencies and numerous OSHPD projects for Kaiser Permanente and the Jewish Homes for the Aging. Other projects include postproduction facilities for Four Media/Liberty Media/Ascent Media, Picture Head and Formosa, Telepictures TV Studio and Animation Studios expansion for Warner Bros and Sony Imageworks and projects for Spotify and Netflix as well as large custom homes in the Los Angeles area. Mr. Mason has developed the Intent of Design Initial Guaranteed Maximum Price / IGMP method, a comprehensive, holistic team-focused collaborative project delivery method which he has implemented since 1984 on over 150 projects. He is a frequent speaker on this subject and has served as a guest lecturer for Harvard GSD’s Project Management Executive Program since 2011.
Mason believes the solution to specific industry and project delivery problems is not to reorganize/refocus the traditional team approach and its process but to adjust the processes and practices, to develop procedures that more effectively align the profession’s work practices, procedures and roles required for an improved teamworking process to reduce risk and achieve and a more certain outcome. Mr. Mason holds a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from South Bank University, a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning, and studied for a PhD at Henley Management College/Brunel University U.K, and was elected to Fellowships in the Royals Institute of Chartered Surveyors, the Chartered Institute of Building and the Institute of Management. He also was a Tenured Faculty Member at Westminster University and taught at Bartlett School of Architecture and Planning/UCL, London.
