Prof. Dr. Tobias Just (FRICS) is Professor of Real Estate Economics at the University of Regensburg and Academic Director of the IREBS Real Estate Academy, the Executive Education institute of the International Real Estate Business School.
Tobias studied economics at the universities of Hamburg and Uppsala/Sweden. His subsequent doctorate at the Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg on globalisation and ideology was awarded the university’s science prize in 2001. From 2001 to October 2011, Tobias was a Senior Economist at Deutsche Bank Research, responsible for all real estate related analyses as well as for the development of sector analysis tools. Since the beginning of 2008, he headed the complete sector and real estate research team. From 2004, Tobias also held regular teaching positions at the TU Berlin and at the IREBS Real Estate Academy. In 2006, Tobias was a Research Fellow at the American Institute of Contemporary German Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC. In 2010, he completed his habilitation at the TU Berlin with a thesis on demography and real estate.
From 2012 to 2018, Tobias was a member of the management board of the Urban Land Institute Germany as well as the board of ICG, the Institute of Corporate Governance of the German Real Estate Industry. From 2013 to 2021, he was on the board of gif, German Society of Property Researchers, serving as the society’s president from 2015 to 2021. In 2015, Tobias was voted into the top 100 by the F.A.Z. in the nationwide ranking of the most influential economists and was made an honorary Fellow (FRICS) by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2017. Tobias has been serving on the Supervisory Board of Helaba Invest from 2016 to 2023 and is the editor of the ZIÖ GermanJournal of Real Estate Research; he has published 15 books, in addition to more than 200 academic and practice-related articles in books and journals and more than 50 articles in newspapers.
