Hotel Design and Development: Secrets from Globally Renowned Properties

Learn a time-tested approach to developing hotels worldwide in just two hours.

The global hospitality market is expected to grow from $4,502.83 billion in 2022 to $6,000.51 billion by 2026. Why and how hotel properties are designed and built has never been more relevant. Aimed at helping developers and architects who want to enter this large and growing market or established veterans looking to diversify beyond their traditional strengths, this workshop will help participants understand the unique aspects of developing hotels in different regions worldwide.

Led by two global veterans of the hospitality design industry, this two-hour virtual workshop will examine the hotel development process from the perspective of the critical stakeholders: owners, operators, designers, and builders.

The workshop will address the current state of the hospitality industry, emerging trends, and strategies for solutions to various hotel sites. Expect to get deep into the details, including how to adapt to each hotel’s unique design challenges and best practices for tackling those challenges.

Three case studies will profile two Peninsula Hotels scheduled to debut in mid-2024, London and Istanbul, and the reimagined New York property. From new build to renovation, from a global to local approach, the contrast of these three projects will showcase many of the challenges faced by development teams in today’s hospitality industry.

Participants will engage in this highly interactive workshop. Surveys and word clouds will capture participants’ input throughout the course, while break-out rooms will be used for participants to debate the impact of current trends on the hotel development process.

  • Understand the motivations of key stakeholders in the hotel development process.
  • Grasp the current state of the global hospitality industry and its impact on the hotel development process.
  • Explore how hotel development varies by project scope, country, and budget.
  • Discuss how the design process differs with each project – and how to adapt the hotel development process accordingly.
